A week in the life of...

Hey everybody! I hope you've all had a great week!

2 May 2011 - 8 May 2011

Major accomplishments for the week:

1. Again - tracking every day! For someone who was online for 3 years and would track maybe 3 days a week at my best and wouldn't track for 3 months at my worst, this is a super achievement.

2. Losing 1.1kg in 5 days! (I attended my first WW meeting last Thursday and had to go to the Monday meeting because I was at my Masters class on Thursday)

3. Moving my body - lots!

Monday 2 May 2011 - My WW friend Liz and my work mate Mae went for a lunchtime aqua jogging session - however it turned into a aqua sprinting session with Mae and I racing each other up the pool. By the end of our 40 minute session we were doing a lap in under 30 seconds, resting for 10 seconds and then racing back in under 30 seconds. It was heaps of fun too!!!

Tuesday 3 May 2011 - I went to my regular Tuesday Zumba class and had an absolute blast! The instructor announced that they now have a facebook page and would be taking photos of us for their page - needless to say I was worried about what I'd look like in said photos - however I'm happy to report that the one photo I am in on their page is actually quite amazing!

Wednesday 4 May 2011 - I walked up town to get a healthy lunch of sushi and earned two activity points for my troubles. I didn't manage to get to Yoga - I think there's a bit of a mental block there or something???

Thursday 5 May 2011 - I was at my Masters class in Otaki and it was pouring - so I didn't get in my walk at lunch time as I had planned. However I went and picked up my awesome bike later that night and rode it around the block (earlier blog) I earned a couple of activity points for that and thoroughly enjoyed myself!!!

Friday 6 May 2011 - still on a major high because of my new bike, I woke up super early, got super organised, and then took my daughter outside so that she could watch her crazy mother ride around the background laughing and cackling like a witchy! She thought I was pretty awesome though and took some photos of me :)

Saturday 7 May 2011 - A house cleaning marathon followed by a rollerskating jam! My girl and I spent 2 hours on our skates - and I even packed a healthy lunch of wholemeal pita pocket sandwiches, fruit, low fat yoghurt and water - which both she and I really enjoyed! Normally we would inhale the chocolate bars and chips that they sell there. Now that's progress!

Sunday 8 May 2011 - I am completing my first walking event of the year today - 10km around the bridges fun run/walk! I'm super duper excited as there's about 25 people from work all participating! I'll post a picture up later of the event. The picture above is a photo of the card that my beautiful 6 year old girl made me for Mother's Day.

Each day I am reminded that my weight loss journey is not just important for me: to feel good, to look better, to be healthier - but that it's most important for my children too! I want to be here on this earth for as long as humanly possible so that my children have me for guidance and support as they travel their journeys of life. We (as in my man and I) also need to be good role-models for them around living a healthy, balanced and fun lifestyle.

It's a huge task, with no end date, but dagnammit I'm gonna try my hardest to do it each and every day of my life!

A new addition to my family

Kia ora everybody

I just wanted to share with you all that I have a new baby - my stunning sleek silver Beach Cruiser!

I bought it about two weeks ago on trademe (NZ's far more superior version of ebay - jokes) and finally got to pick it up last night.

Here's a photo of "her" from trademe - isn't she beautiful?  She is much more prettier in real life.

I didn't arrive back in Whanganui until about 10pm and it was pitch black but I couldn't resist taking her for a ride.

She rides like a dream and it felt just like a bike that I once had as a small child.

I swear I looked like a deranged crazy lady riding her around my neighbourhood - a giant grin from ear to ear!

I plan to cycle a whole lot more and this bike will certainly inspire that.  This is my "cruising around town" bike.  My other bike is my "riding for exercise" bike.

Yay for new bikes!!!

A great week!

Hey everybody - this post is a bit late but better late than never!

Monday 25th April 2011 - Sunday 1 May 2011

My major achievements for the week:

1.  Exercising really regularly - it's week three and I'm feeling like exercise is certainly a part of my life now!
2.  Tracking every single day!
3.  Joining back up a WW meetings!

Monday 25th April 2011 I rode my bike to work!  In the rain!!!  I thought that it was a bit crazy to ride in the rain but I thought "Dang girl - you live in NZ and it rains all. the. time.  So what you gonna do? You gonna use a bit of water as an excuse?  Because if you do that now, you will do it for the rest of your life"  So I got on my bike and rode - 60 mins in total - in the rain! - so freaken proud of myself!!!!

Tuesday 26th April 2011 Zumba, Zumba, Zumba!

Wednesday 27th April 2011 - a little bit of walking.

Thursday 28th April 2011 - a fabulous day!  I joined back up at WW meetings.  I completely adore my leader -  very inspirational young woman!  I also made a friend - she needs to lose the same amount of weight as I do, so we buddied up and swapped phone numbers!  At the meeting I weighed in at 105.6 - a whole kilo lighter than what I weigh on the scales at home!  Another bonus of attending meetings :)

That night I went to Zumba :) and earned myself a handsome total of 16 activity points :)

Friday 29th April 2011 - Me and my new WW buddy met up at lunch time and did a fabulous 40 minute walk around our town, along the riverside and up hills and stairs.  Feeling fantastic!

Saturday and Sunday - I did really well food-wise but unfortunately I couldn't get in any exercise as I had a course all weekend.

Some other awesome parts of the week including getting asked "What are you doing, because you're looking really good!" by one of my partner's cousins.  I also had a meeting with two of our physical activity coordinators at work and was told that I was "An excellent rolemodel who is walking the talk!"  Wow what a completely awesome compliment!

Some cool things I'm looking forward to:

My first walking event of the year - the Whanganui Round the Bridges Fun run - I'm doing 10km - and I'm very, very excited!

I have exercise planned for every single day of the week.  I'm going away on Thursday, and won't be back in time for Zumba, but I'm planning on going for a big walk during my lunch break.

So I'm feeling really fabulous and motivated and want to continue to feel this way :)

To meet or not to meet?

That is the question...

Since I reignited my weightloss journey a few weeks ago, I've been contemplating going back to meetings. The last time I attended a meeting was in November 2009 - I had successfully lost 5 kg at meetings but I was only attending for weigh ins, as I didn't have enough time to stay for the meetings.

That is when I switched to online only - and lost 12 more kgs. I love the online community but I'm feeling that I would really love to go and have an official weigh in and get some mojo face to face...

Is it worth the extra investment$ (NZ doesn't have WW unlimited - why I don't know but we don't) so it's another $18.50 per week

Saturday, April 23, 2011

I've finally figured out my problem when it comes to weight-loss - it comes in the form of a close friend of mine, a buddy, a companion.  Someone who has stayed with me through thick and thin, good and bad, happy and sad times.    When everyone else had bailed on me my good friend had been there late at night, a stoic supporter.

However the last few years I've kind of figured out that my good friend is not so much that anymore, but more a saboteur, a frenemie of sorts.

You see, this friend of mine goes by the name of Insomnia and she normally shows up at my place around 11pm at night.  She is normally accompanied by her close friend, Binge Eating - and like most friends they can both be a lot of fun and a lot of heart break.

I can be doing so well, staying on track, feeling really great, and then Insomnia turns up, makes me stay up late and then Binge-Eating peer pressures me into eating whatever is in the cupboard.  Thanks to my partner (another saboteur) there's normally always some form of chocolate biscuit or packet of chips that I end up inhaling at high speed in the middle of the night.

For the past week I have been really aware of myself doing this.  Each day I track throughout and after dinner I finalise my tracking for the day, making any tweaks if I had forgotten to track something during the day.  At this stage of the night I'm always feeling in control and on top of my game, 80% of the time I am within or smack on my points allowance.

What happens next is where things go wrong... I stay up really late and watch TV.  I don't know why I have the need to do this, but I do.  Normally my night will go a little something like this:

  1. Kids sorted and asleep
  2. Favourite TV programmes watched
  3. Blog/Facebook/Twitter & photos from the day uploaded
  4. Shower
  5. Bed   (This should be where my night ends, but then, as you'll see, my frenemies turn up:
  6. Then I get back up and go and watch TV!
  7. THEN I make an appearance in front of the fridge or pantry
  8. THEN I inhale copious amounts of food
  9. THEN I have an attack of the Binge-Eaters Remorse!
  10. I pass out around 2am
The past week is a pretty typical reflection of every week of my life:

Monday night:  2 hot cross buns, a milo and an easter egg (21 points)
Tuesday night: 2 slices of cold pizza (yucky but I ate it anyway), 3 glasses of coke zero (8 points)
Wednesday night:  1 packet of burger rings, 6 chocolate macaroon biscuits, (33 points)
Thursday night:  Yay - I didn't binge tonight!!!)
Friday night:  3 macaroon biscuits, 40ish grams of buttery popcorn (10 points)
Saturday night: Potato chips, 1 extra beer (than I had allowed for) 1 cupcake (33 points)

I guess the really shocking thing about the above recap is that these totals are on top of my  normally daily intake!!!

Argh!

For the last week I've had my Dad visiting and we've only got a small house.  My Dad has been sleeping in my daughter's bed and both of the kids have been in with their father, in our bed.  This has given me the excuse to just sleep on the couch every night!  So needless to say I've definitely been binging every night this week.

It can be so depressing and I feel like giving up!    Yesterday for example I had the most amazing day - I had spent heaps of time with my family, I had gotten some amazing photos, whilst out doing HEAPs of walking and I had completely stayed on track.  In fact we all went out to a smorgasbord restaurant and I managed this really well - I just attacked the salad bar until I was full and then I allowed myself a sweet treat.  To compensate for this special outing I made the most delicious 0 points salad for dinner and I was feeling on top of the world and super satisfied!

And then the night fell...

Because it was Saturday night I had rewarded my week's efforts with two Coronas and lemon - mmmmm.  Then I put on my new favourite movie "Breakfast at Tiffany's"  and I was completely enjoying my Girl's Night In.

I was about 1 hour into the movie and then all of a sudden it happened... I felt a craving for something salty...  I found myself once again making a midnight appearance at the Pantry Door.  As luck would (or wouldn't) have it there was a big fat packet of "Ready Salted Potato Chips"  I told myself I would just have a few, but we all know where that was heading... right on through to the Bottom'O'the Bag-ville!

I felt completely disgusting and wanted to scream at myself out loud "what the "F" are you doing!?!??!  but I just kept on eating... at high speed I might add!  When you're in the space (as a lot of you will have been) it's just so easy to think "Oh well I've eaten that, I might as well eat everything else in the house"  and so I did - there was a yummy cupcake in a gorgeous box on the table and I ate that too!!!  ARRRGGGHHHH!!!!

I do have a bounce back plan though, and I'm going to try it out tonight.  I'm going to do my evening routine, and then I'm going to go to bed.  And here's the clincher:  I'm going to stay in bed.  Even if my mate Insomnia turns up with all of his buddies.  I'm going to stay in there and not let even one of my toes touch the floor.  I know that my sleeping issues are contributing 100% to my binging issues and I want to tackle them both head on!

I am 100% determined to no longer be the fat girl with no energy or drive.  This is my year and I'm going to do it!   I am not going to let myself sabotage myself any longer!  I know that we have one life and gosh darn it I intend to live my one to the fullest!!!

Just as I was posting this to my WW blog I read a wall post that one of my WW buddies had left me.  And quite frankly I'm blown away at the timing and sense of coincidence!

She's invited me to do a eating challenge - and you know what, I'm gonna do it!  Thanks noni-bear!!

An awesome week in the making!

Hey everybody!  It's not actually the end of the week but this week has been so fabulous and it's a long weekend starting today so I thought I would just go ahead and do my weekly update blog.

Major achievements for the week:

1.  I have tracked every day - and I have managed to stay within my Pro Points allowance 2 out of the 4 days so far!  Whilst this not be a major achievement to most people, this is a major for me!  The old me would overeat every, single day - so I'm patting myself on the back for what I have done this week!

I get a kick out of getting the tick!

2.  I have exercised every single day - I actually really get a kick out of getting those three little ticks at the top of my "Your Plan" page on WW online - and I make sure that I do at least 20 minutes exercise in order to earn my activity tick :)

I am getting ALOT of inspiration from *Bitchcakes*  - She's just amazing!  Every time I feel like gorging out on bad food I just need to jump on line and read either her latest prose or I'll roam through her archives.  After reading her super inspiring words I feel super motivated to stay on track!  (and stay away from the chocolate biscuits!)  Thank you Bitchcakes - you are the WOMAN!

Monday 18/4/11 - I knew that I wouldn't be able to go for a long walk tonight, because my partner is out on Monday nights and I've got to take care of Mr 2 so I did a quick 20 minute walk up town during my lunch break and managed to earn 2 activity points!

Tuesday 19/4/11 - Again I walked up town, had my fav korean dish for lunch (Soon Dubu) and then walked the memorial steps - later on that night my daughter and I did ZUMBA!
My darling getting her Zumba groove on
Not my best photo, but you can see the Zumba signs in the background
Wednesday 20/4/11 A walk up town via a steep hill and the memorial steps  - that night my girl and I did our big 60 minute walk, but this time we walked over two bridges!

This is on our way over the Railway Bridge - a first for us together!
Here's some over photos I snapped on our walk:

Thursday 21/4/11 - One of my favourite days of the week because it means ZUMBA, ZUMBA, ZUMBA!!!  My girl was just amazing and did the majority of the session!  She really worked up a sweat and I was so proud of her for her coordination and cutie-pieness!

_________________________________________________________________________
Today is Good Friday in NZ (I would assume the world?) and it's a Public Holiday - a paid day off work - yus!.  I'm planning on doing a big walk today, and will probably need to go by myself because I don't think my daughter will be able to handle it.  It will cover the four bridges of the Whanganui River and is approximately 11 kilometres long (6.8 miles)

It's all part of my training plan because I'm training for a half marathon at the end of this year.  The Adidas Auckland Marathon!  There's a few things that are especially special and exciting about this event, and here they are:
  1. It will be my first half marathon
  2. I will get to walk over the Auckland Harbour Bridge!
  3. My Dad and I will be walking it together!!!!
  4. It's on my Dad's 66th birthday!
Very exciting stuff!  I need to be in great physical condition for this because it's primarily a running event and just judging from their information on line it doesn't sound like they'll have a whole lot of patience for slow-bo walkers.  So it's my goal to do this in really good time!

Well my friends, wish me the best - I'm going to go and put my walking shoes on right now!

It was the best of weeks, it was the worst of weeks...

Two major accomplishments for the week:

1. I tracked every single day! - and I mean I REALLY tracked, that is I logged in every piece of food and drink that went into my mouth - so some days look really good (on target) and some days don't (60 pointer days!). But you know what, at least it's real - because I'd only be fooling myself otherwise!

My second major accomplishment is:
2. I exercised every day - Total achievement!!!  This really is a huge feat for me seeing as for the last two months or so I haven't done anything, neither tracking or moving my body, consistently!  Consistency is the key to losing a large amount of weight, I have 36kg to lose - So yay for me!!!  I'm off to a great start!

Monday 11/04/11 - I did my Winsor Pilates DVD (one of a few exercise DVDs that haven't seen the light of day for a good 12 months or so!!) - It was a fabulous toning 20 minute workout on the floor in the lounge - quite an undertaking when you've got a two year old child climbing all over you at the same time!
This is DVD I have and it's great - that sculpting circle is the business!

Tuesday 12/04/11- I enjoyed a really lovely lunch with one of my good friends at my most favourite Korean cafe in town.  My favourite dish is soon dubu - a really spicy tofu stew that's served with kim chi, omelette and steamed rice.  Delicious!  What's even more great about it is that it only comes to a grand total of 8 WW points!  Awesome!  After our yummy scrummy lunch we conquered the Memorial stairs on the way back to the office. I also went to Zumba which was fabulous and such a great workout!

Wisely and slow, they stumble that run fast, take a rest - Some great wall art at Auri Korean Cafe, Whanganui
The majestic Sargeant Gallery

Second lot of steps to the Memorial Obelisk in Queens Park, Whanganui

Wednesday 13/04/11
-  I binged real bad! which I blogged about but I managed to bounce back.  My daughter and I went for a really long walk - she brought her scooter and had heaps of fun - I was really happy that I didn't just keep on sliding!  What's really great is that my girl is completely hooked now on going for big scooter/walks with mama - what better motivation that a nagging child!?!?!

Dusk in Whanganui

Thursday 14/04/11 - a quick blast up the hill at lunchtime and then Zumba that night!  Did I mention how much I love Zumba?

My fabulous and inspiring Zumba Instructors!!

My foot - stepping it out at lunchtime!
Friday 15/04/11 - another big walk around our suburb with my daughter.

My girl scootering as I walk - the best support person!!!

I earned a total of 25 Activity Points which I'm completely stoked about!  And that was just the week days!!

My daughter and I have heaps of cool activities (and exercise) planned for this weekend.
We went roller-skating - like good ole fashioned roller skating!  It was great.  It's that kind of activity that you just lose track of the time and everything because you're having such great fun.  That and the fact that you're concentrating so hard on staying up right!  Great for the abs, bums and thighs!!!!

After we left the roller skating rink, we went up to Durie Hill and walked up the Durie Hill Memorial Tower - 176 steps!!!

I thought my daughter would be had it at that stage, but as we drove into our street I heard the words "Mama, can we go for another big scooter/walk?"  I jumped at the opportunity to get in some more exercise.  I also want to encourage her and be a good role model, so I agreed and we did our big 60 minute walk again!

The great thing about walking is that you see so much more than you do when you're driving!  Here's a few images of some great things we spotted whilst out on our roam..

Whanganui Rock n Roll club (Zumba Venue)

We found this really cool bus chair randomly placed outside an old shop

This week I managed to spend some time planning out some activity goals for myself.  I've got some awesome walking/running/biking events planned out - one for each month of the year (although I'm still looking for an event in November)
  1. May - Round the Bridges Fun Run in Whanganui
  2. June - Wellington Marathon - 10km
  3. July -  Rangitikei Duathlon series 1
  4. August - Rangitikei Duathlon series 2
  5. September  - Rangitikei Duathlon series 3
  6. October - Auckland Marathon
  7. November - TBC
  8. December - Three Bridges Event - Whanganui
If you wanna check out the events for yourself, you can click on the links in my side bar ---->

So all in all - I had a great week - I'm really looking forward to weigh in day because I'd like to see if these major changes I've made have any effect.  If worse case scenario happens and I've gained weight, I just need to reset Control/Alt/Delete and not let myself fall down that slippery slope!
